Final Twenty Time Reflection

It’s so weird to me that our twenty time projects are over, and so is the school year. I put so much time and effort into it, and now we are done. I’m not going to lie, I absolutely loved the twenty time projects. The whole idea seemed so exciting to me the first time it was introduced, and now that I’ve done it, I can honestly say that it has helped me and bettered me in so many ways. I looked forward to every day seven, and I even loved writing the blog posts about what I was doing, even though they probably only made sense to just me since I was the only one that knew what I was talking talking about. I admit, remembering some of the blog posts and getting them in on time was a bit challenging, especially when I was out sick, but I did my best to stay on top of them. I learned that, no matter how far fetched my goals may seem and how little time I may have, that’s no excuse to lose motivation. I might have only had a year to write three over-100,000 word books and edit them to perfection, and I might not have gotten close to achieving this goal, but I kept going and I tried as hard as I could. Even when I knew there was no possible way that I was going to finish all of them, I still kept going and didn’t lose interest in what I was doing. From my successes, I learned that I get extremely invested and devoted and passionate about what I’m doing, and that that isn’t really a bad thing at all. From my failures, I learned to set more realistic goals for myself, and that not everything will work out on the first attempt. I know that I will remember most of the stories behind where many of my ideas for the book came from, and when I go back and read what I’ve written, I’ll remember my thought process and the songs I was listening to during particular scenes. I may not have finished all three books and I might still have a long way to go with them, but I’m very proud of the fact that I have made it this far and that these books are A MILLION TIMES BETTER than I ever thought they would be. I’m so proud that this started as a little idea that just came into my head one day a few years ago, an idea that is completely different from the books that I have written now, and that it has morphed into this big part of my life that I really enjoy. I know that I’m going to keep writing until I finished them, because I have devoted so much to them already, that there is no way I am going to give up on them now that the twenty time projects are over.

To Be a Girl at DA // Final Reflection

  • What did you enjoy about the experience?

I enjoyed this project so much! One of my favorite aspects of the project was the artistic piece. I loved learning how to use a bunch of tools and nurturing my creative ethos. Also, it was wonderful getting to know Ms. G-B

  • What was the most challenging aspect of your Twenty Time project?

The most challenging aspect of my project was figuring out which questions to ask the girls of DA and then determining how to represent the results I got. It was difficult transforming somewhat abstract ideas into a tangible representation.

  • What is one thing you learned about yourself by participating in your Twenty Time project?

I learned that I’m a pretty ambitious person; this served me well sometimes and not so well others. The structure I made required a lot of time to complete it, and I didn’t have very much time. But I got it done, so YAY!

  • What are you most proud of? Why?

I’m most proud of the time I dedicated to make my final product what I envisioned it to be. I could have made decisions that would have varied the outcome of the structure, but instead I decided to go in a lot during tutorials, lunches, and E period.

  • What lessons did you learn from your successes?

From my successes, I gained a platform for moving forward. When I succeeded with my structure, I could then move on to working on other things and build on top of what I had already done. From my successes in the interviewing/surveying process, I gained information to compare my other results to.

  • What lessons did you learn from your failures?

From my failures in the information gathering stage and in the artistic stage, I learned how to come up with alternative routes of getting where I wanted to be. Ms. G-B really helped me think at the intersection of things when something wasn’t working in the structure.

  • What is one thing about this project you believe you’ll remember for a long time to come?

I think the one thing I’ll remember is the people who I see looking at my structure and taking the time to learn about a really relevant topic in our community. It’s really great seeing what I learned through this project being spread to others.

  • What is something the teacher could have done to make this project better?

I don’t think anything. She was a really big help in formulating the questions for my survey and always patient and available to help me reevaluate when it was needed.

Final Reflection – Soccer Trainings

  • What did you enjoy about the experience?
    • I enjoyed spending time with my trainees and teaching them soccer. These trainings also relieved some of my stress with school because when I was training them I wasn’t thinking about school work, which was really nice.
  • What was the most challenging aspect of your Twenty Time project?
    • The most challenging part was finding a good time where both me and my trainees were free, and then trying to avoid bad weather, sickness, and injuries, which I think for the most part we avoided pretty well.
  • What is one thing you learned about yourself by participating in your Twenty Time project?
    • I learned that I am actually a pretty good teacher. I found that I was a good teacher because my trainees improved a lot throughout the year. Throughout the year I also learned how to give more clear explanations because sometimes someone wouldn’t understand something I said so I would have to find a different way to explain.
  • What are you most proud of? Why?
    • I am most proud of my trainees because they also have busy lives and they still came out every week and trained with me. They improved so much throughout the year and I am very proud of them. I really hope they both continue to play soccer.
  • What lessons did you learn from your successes?
    • I learned that playing soccer is a lot different than teaching and that if I do a good job teaching, then my trainees will learn fast.
  • What lessons did you learn from your failures?
    • I learned that I can’t control the weather or whether or not someone is sick or hurt. What I learned from this is that for next time I need to set up back-up dates to train if one of these things happen.
  • What is one thing about this project you believe you’ll remember for a long time to come?
    • I will definitely remember the first time Allison tried using the form I taught her for shooting, and her shot was perfect. It was powerful and went right into the upper-90 of the goal. I will also remember when she got 7 juggles (her high score) and was so excited.
  • What is something the teacher could have done to make this project better?
    • I think that Mrs. Wittman did an amazing job with this project. There will always be uncontrollable technical difficulties with presentations. However, I think that maybe in order to not go onto an extra day of presentations, there should be a more strict rule about sticking to a 4-5 minute presentation like it says on the sheet. I know a lot of people, including me, probably went over 5 minutes.

Final Post

Hey guys. Well the book’s done. Yah. I really had a lot of fun writing it. I thought it was cool how sometimes I didn’t know what was going to happen next and  I just let the words take control and see where I ended up. Honestly, I thought the time restraints were pretty hard. If I had known how quickly the end would have come, I probably would have made some changes near the beginning on how I decided to tackle it. Honestly, this experience showed me just how much I love to write and how much I want to do it again. Here’s hoping. I am very proud of the book, and for what I feel like is good reason. This taught me that despite how much fun it was to write the book, holding it in my hand and seeing the fruits of my labor is so much better. There’s probably a word for a person like that, but I don’t know it. If my failures taught me one thing, it’s to get a schedule of longer term projects and do my best to stick to it. Just don’t tell my mom I said that. Seriously though, I did not have enough time to peer edit and I think that could have really helped me. Live and learn I guess. I think I will always remember how good it felt when I held that book in my hand and thought to myself ‘I made this.’ I guess I’ll remember the moment I decided I want to create stories.

Twenty Time Reflection Questions

What did you enjoy about the experience?

I liked how we were able to pursue anything we wanted. At school, usually you aren’t able to choose what you want to learn more about or pursue, but with this project, we get to learn about something that we want to know. I liked how the project didn’t have specific guidelines on how you should approach the project/what you should get out of the project. The project was up to you and you got to decided what you wanted to get out of the project.

What was the most challenging aspect of your Twenty Time project?

The most challenging aspect was staying dedicated and exploring new things with photography. When going into the project, I set all these goals about wanting to learn how shutter speed, aperture, manual, etc. affected a photo and what they did, but a lot of times I found myself just slacking off and quickly taking pictures just so I could upload them to the blog. When I did try out new things with my camera, I got frustrated quickly because the photos weren’t turning out the way I wanted them too and I was confused on how to adjust all little aspects of the photo.

What is one thing you learned about yourself by participating in your Twenty Time project?

I learned that I am easily discouraged when the outcome is not what I pictured it to be. For example, after playing with my new camera, I wanted to start experimenting with manual, or adjusting the light, shutter speed, and focus. However, when I first started using this, I got frustrated really quickly and just switched back to auto because I had no idea what to do. I wish I would’ve stuck with it and learned more about how these aspects affect a photo and how to adjust according to the setting. I really want to work more with it because I know that if I play around with it more I will get the hang of it and see how each aspect affects the outcome of the photograph.

What are you most proud of? Why?

I am most proud of the pictures I took of people. I am really interested in capturing facial expressions and moments where someone is showing emotion. I realized halfway through the year that people are my favorite thing to photograph. I think I took a lot of good pictures of all different kinds of people. What lessons did you learn from your successes?

I learned a lot from my successes. I learned that not all your photos are going to be great, but learn from the mistakes that you made. I learned that angles play a big factor in the outcome of a photo and finding that right angle can drastically change a photograph. I learned that experimenting with different buttons on my camera is a way to take a photo and see the difference it made and learn and apply that new button to other photos. My successes also showed me what worked and what didn’t. For example, when using manual, I took tons of pictures that looked awful and out of focus, but eventually, I got a really good photo. I got this photo by drastically changing the numbers the shutter speed and aperture were set to and realized that it worked really really well.

What lessons did you learn from your failures?

I had many failures throughout this project, however, they were good failures. By this I mean, I learned a lot by taking tons of pictures at once and seeing what I did on the photos that looked badly and comparing that to the photos that turned out how I wanted them to. When I started adjusting things on my own on my camera, I just randomly changed the shutter speed numbers to really high or really low and then took pictures of the same thing, just with different settings. With this, I evaluated what worked and what didn’t. The bad photos showed me what not to set the speed too and how that speed affected the quality of the photo.

What is one thing about this project you believe you’ll remember for a long time to come?

The fact that it got me into the habit of dedicating 20-30 minutes every week of taking pictures inside or outside. I will remember this because now this has gotten me into a routine of trying to take photos at least once a week. It has really helped me get better with using my camera and experimenting with times of day/lighting/angles. I think I will remember going outside wherever I was and just being free to take pictures of anything, even if it didn’t look cool, it was just really helpful to be free to photograph whatever I wanted.

What is something the teacher could have done to make this project better?

I was rushing to put together my end of the year presentation and wished I could have had a little more time to work on preparing. I was freaking out about it the night before and wished I would have had more time to practice my speech. Other than that, I thought this was such a fun project and next year would not change anything. I really enjoyed being able to pursue anything that I wanted and having no set guidelines.

Blog Post #17

This is my last twenty time day, and I feel like I accomplished a lot. I have gotten in the habit of taking pictures every week and dedicating time to going outside and photographing anything that looks cool to me. I realized I take a lot more pictures with my iphone, rather than my camera and actually, usually like the pictures that are taken with my iphone, than with the camera. I started putting together a slideshow of all my pictures that I have taken this year. It has been really fun to reflect on all the pictures I have taken and remember all the work that went into them. There is a wide variety of pictures that I have taken and I am really proud of my overall work this year. This weekend, my cousin let me take pictures with her camera and it was really interesting to see how different it was from mine. She told about the techniques she used and also told me how to use different settings on her camera. She prefers to manually focus instead of auto because she likes to capture one specific aspect of the photo rather than have it all in focus. She is going to help me out with using my camera this summer and using manual.

Twenty Time Reflection

What did you enjoy about the experience?

I enjoyed that I got to choose a topic to focus on for the whole year and that we got time one day out of the seven day schedule to work on it. I am glad that the time was there for me to further explore photography. It helped me to really improve on an existing hobby. The project started out as something that I did a lot of during the twenty time days and only did the minimum during the rest of the week, but it changed as I got further into it. I spent more and more of my free-time devoted to taking photos and figuring out how to use my new camera.

What was the most challenging aspect of your Twenty Time project?

The most challenging part of my project was that I forgot to take a photo on some days, and then that just piled up into a week where I had not taken any photos. So that aspect of my project dissolved as the year progressed.

What is one thing you learned about yourself by participating in your Twenty Time project?

I learned that for me to pick up a hobby and become more serious about it, I need to start slowly spending more time working on that hobby. I think that since I started out the project with just a photo a day, it allowed me to start off slow and become gradually more involved in photography. Eventually my ‘photo a day’ plan progressed into me taking long walks with camera looking for interesting photos to take and I was finding myself spend more time trying to find inspiration from peers and places online.

What are you most proud of? Why?

I am most proud that I was able to figure out how to use my DSLR camera, and eventually be able to move it off of auto and change the settings with shutter speed. This is shown by a couple of my favorite photos that I took during this project:

I am really proud of these photos because I took them on my DSLR with a different shutter speed setting. They show how far I have come from the start of this project.

What lessons did you learn from your successes?

I learned that if you like something, you should make more time for doing it. You may find out that you have a passion for it and continue on with it.

What lessons did you learn from your failures?

I learned that when you fail, try not to get discouraged. I had trouble taking photos with my DSLR camera at first. I was really excited to start taking photos with it and at first they all came out blurry. I did some more research on how to use it, and I later realized what the problem was. Sometimes failures can be easily solved by some research or by asking for help from someone else.

What is one thing about this project you believe you’ll remember for a long time to come?

I will always have the photos to remember this project and I will remember this as my ‘start’ in photography. I will also remember my one main accomplishment which was moving off of the auto setting on my DSLR camera.

What is something the teacher could have done to make this project better?

This project is more in the students’ hands. I think that there isn’t much the teacher could have done to make the project better. I think the mid-year evaluation was really helpful and it helped many people to make adjustments in their goals. I also think that even though the presentations took a long time that they were worth it in the end because we got to see what our peers did for their projects.

Twenty Times Final Reflection

  • What did you enjoy about the experience?

I enjoyed the flexibility I had while working on my project. I feel like I was able to get more out of the experience by following my own individual path than adhering to class-wide guidelines.

  • What was the most challenging aspect of your Twenty Time project?

Well, there were some serious unexpected bumps in the road (getting hacked) which took a dent out of my initial aspirations. Other then that, the project went smoothly.

  • What is one thing you learned about yourself by participating in your Twenty Time project?

I learned how to deal with a setback, how to step back and figure out how to rebound from a seemingly impossible problem. I also learned that I am flexible and can change my initial goals to accommodate unexpected occurrences.

  • What are you most proud of? Why?

I am most proud of the fact that even though someone hacked my website, I was able to clean it up and still make it look really nice and function well by the end. I fell like I accomplished a lot.

  • What lessons did you learn from your successes?

I learned that if you work hard enough at something, you can still get a great end result even if you suffer a really big setback early on.

  • What lessons did you learn from your failures?

I learned to be prepared for everything. In retrospect, I should have guarded against any possible malware and installed security software on my website before I ever took in online.

  • What is one thing about this project you believe you’ll remember for a long time to come?

Well, I will certainly remember the hack :). It caused me lots of stress at the time, but now I can look back on it and laugh.

  • What is something the teacher could have done to make this project better?

I think the very nature of the project means that the teacher does not have to do a lot; each student has their own individual path. I think you provided enough information in the begging and checked back with us helpfully throughout the year.

Twenty Time Reflection

What did you enjoy about the experience?

I enjoyed doing something that I love, which is playing lacrosse. I enjoyed taking a day off of discussions about the odyssey and Persepolis etc.

What was the most challenging aspect of your Twenty Time project?

The most challenging aspect was making the videos of me stringing because I didn’t really know how to do it so the quality was very bad.

What is one thing you learned about yourself by participating in your Twenty Time project?

The one thing I learned about myself from this project was that I am creative because I made my video with some inspiration from other youtube videos and other stuff from online social media.

What are you most proud of? Why?

I am most proud of my stringing and pocket design because I have never strung a lacrosse stick with that sort of precision and pocket placement in the head.

What lessons did you learn from your successes?

I learned that taking risks sometimes will come out to be positive and you will be glad that you did them.

What lessons did you learn from your failures?

I learned that taking risks sometimes will come back to haunt you and really put you in a situation where you will have trouble.

What is one thing about this project you believe you’ll remember for a long time to come?

I will remember the video I took of myself shooting the back handed shot without looking and hitting the tip left corner of the goal. Probably one of the sickest shot I have ever taken.

What is something the teacher could have done to make this project better?

I think that everything was perfect. Every day 7 we get to work on it. We start at the beginning of the year and end at the end of the year. We get to choose any topic we want. I am not sure there is anything to modify about his project.

Last Twenty Time Post

Although this is my last Twenty Time blog post, I have learned so much and I’m very grateful to have had the opportunity to do this project. Some of the things I enjoyed about the experience are that I got to do something that I really never had time to do but was extremely interested in doing and also no offense to any of my teachers. It gave me a break of all of the school work and assignments and I was able to do something I really enjoyed during school. The most challenging aspect of my project was figuring out where I wanted to go with my whole topic. I had the idea of college basketball in my head, but putting it all together into a topic was very difficult for me. Also putting all of the information I had gotten into a recipe was extremely hard because I had so much information. Through this project I learned that I really do want to become a Division 1 College basketball player and that I really need to work hard to achieve my goal. Furthermore I learned a lot about the recruiting process that I will hopefully be going through in a couple years, which is when the coaches come watch you play and hopefully offer you a scholarship to their school. I’m most proud of my final recipe of what it takes to become a Division 1 college basketball player because I worked very hard to start and finish it. Some lessons that I learned from my success were that if you work hard success is right around the corner, you just have to work for it. But I also learned through my failures that success and failure come hand and hand. To be successful, failure comes first. One thing about my project that I will remember for a long time to come is the interview I had with Coach Mike Krzyzewski. I’ll remember this because I got to ask some very in depth questions about basketball and life, and with that I received incredible answers. Overall that interview was momentous in my life. A thing the teacher could’ve done better is to give the students more time to work on their project. Twenty Time felt very long, but in the end looking back on the project time was short and all of the students had to work hard to finish their projects. Another thing the teacher could’ve done better is to introduce the project in more depth, lots of students especially me were very confused when we were first assigned the project.
